This pine box is attributed to Heinrich Bucher he worked in Lancaster County, PA in the late 18th century. Bucher made both flat top and dome lidded boxes in various sizes. His decoration technique is very distinct and this box is typical of his work. The name on the lid is John with the use of the letter "I" instead of a "J". In the eighteenth century the two letters were interchangeable. The box retains the original paint, but there are areas of wear to the paint. W: 9", D: 8.5", H: 2.25".
